Blood Money not similar to Blood Diamond,Naam : Bhatt

Bollywood Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says that his upcoming movie 'Blood Money' is not inspired by Hollywood movie, 'Blood Diamond' and has no similarities to own directorial film 'Naam'.

A film Produced by Mahesh Bhatt, the film stars Kunal Khemu, the protagonist, who migrates to South Africa due to a lucrative job offer but ends up finding himself in the middle of an organised white collar crime syndicate.

The story line of this film seems similar to Oscar winning film 'Blood Diamond' starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connely. Also, 'Blood Money' is touted as a remake of Bhatt's own film, 'Naam' starring Sanjay Dutt. But Bhatt denies all these talks.

“No, our film is not the Indian version of 'Blood Diamond' or anything of that sort. 'Blood Diamond' dealt only with the industry of diamonds...that particular trade. Our film is a journey of a middle class Indian who dreams of getting the best in the world and how this man suddenly finds himself in the company of people who deal with notorious activities," Bhatt said.

Madhuri inspires Chitrangada's look in Kaafirana

Bollywood Actress Chitrangada Singh, who has done an item song for Shirish Kunder's Joker film, her look in the song is inspired by Madhuri Dixit's in the song Humko aajkal hai from Sailaab.

"I don't like to call it an item song, it is a dance performance that I have done for the film. It's called Kaafirana and it is very rustic, very 1980s in its look and it is a little bit of Madhuri from Sailaab, that's the kind of look that we have been inspired from," said Chitrangada.

Chitrangada, who has adorned the cover page of various magazines, says print photo shoot is challenging, but at the same time comfortable also.

"I think what's good about shooting a print picture is that you have to do so much more within that one frame or one shot. You have to look the part, you have to have the right expression, everything has to be perfect," said Chitrangada.

"But at the same time, I think there is a lot more control when you are doing print so you are lot comfortable. If there is something wrong you can get it fixed later, that is not the final thing going out. Whereas if you do a film, there is one long shot that you have to give and that's it," she added.

Chitrangada was last seen in Desi Boyz and is currently working on I, Me Aur Main opposite John Abraham and a Sudhir Mishra film opposite Arjun Rampal.

'Department' will be RGV's most stylish film: Rana Daggubati

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS) Ram Gopal Varma's past few projects have failed to rock the box office, but actor Rana Daggubati, who has teamed up with the director in "Department", is confident that the film will turn out to be one of his most stylish movies.

"Ramu (Varma) dabbles in a lot of genres of films. He is very good with his work, and has a wonderful storytelling pattern, which is most often trendsetting. His film 'Satya' broke stereotype, and 'Company' gave Vivek Oberoi such a great launchpad...I think 'Department' will be one of his most stylish film ever shot," Rana told IANS.

In "Department", the southern star will be seen as a grungy policeman - a role that was earlier reserved for Abhishek Bachchan. The film's characters include a don, a gangster, a gangster-turned-politician, and shootout specialists. No wonder it was exciting for Rana to work in it!

"I think Ramu is one filmmaker who has complete understanding of the subject he tackles in his films and likes to accumulate extensive knowledge before venturing out into each theme. Be it underworld or any other subject, his films speak of the research he does.

"'Department' is a heavy-duty action film. I trained a lot for it, and the training was just in the gym. It had a lot to do with marshall arts, and I easily had 10 to 15 action sequences. So it was fun," said the 27-year-old.

Meanwhile he has also been occupied with the dubbing of Telugu film "Naa Ishtam", in which he is paired opposite the recently-married Genelia D'Souza.

"I play a young, brash boy in 'Naa Ishtam'....very different from 'Department', in which each line that my character says, is measured. 'Naa Ishtam' is a commercial project...I am playing my age, and it was wonderful to work with Genelia. She is way more experienced than I am, but we had a great time," said the actor, who enjoys the diverse content offered to him.

"I made an unconventional debut with 'Dum Maro Dum'. As a launch film, it was different as opposed to others, who would go for a romantic project. So I am happy," he added.

Moments to remember from Oscar 2012

Source: Associated Press

The Oscar telecast takes hours, but it's the moments we remember.

Just a few of them, of course -- ones that are so emotional, funny, or bizarre that they'll stand out in our collective memories, candidates for future Oscar montages, of course, but also for office watercooler talk. Here's a running look at some of the Oscar moments we may be talking about in the morning:

And He's Back!

Last year, the joke-starved Oscar audience was so thrilled to see Billy Crystal by the time he showed up, they gave him a standing ovation before he even said a word. This time, now back as host, he was greeted warmly if less ecstatically as he launched into his timeworn routine: first the montage where he inserts himself into films -- he even got a kiss from George Clooney in his The Descendants hospital bed -- and then his medley of songs. "You didn't think I wasn't gonna do this, did ya"? he quipped. No, we didn't.

In a clever nod to the need for a bit o' youth, Crystal brought Justin Bieber into his Midnight in Paris bit. Later he was even blunter: "We're gonna slam the 78 to 84 demographic," he said. Next year, he added, we'd be in the Flomax Theater, referring to the prostate medication. The old-age reference became a running theme of the night. After 82-year-old Christopher Plummer won the supporting actor prize, Crystal quipped: "The average age for winners has just jumped to 67."

Meryl and Marriage

From longevity in life to longevity in marriage: One of the most moving moments of the night came when Meryl Streep, winning best actress for The Iron Lady, thanked her husband, Don Gummer -- not at the end, but at the beginning of her speech, so that the music wouldn't drown out the acknowledgement as it often does.

"Everything I value most in our lives, you gave me," Streep said tearfully.

Then she thanked her other partner: J. Roy Helland, her makeup artist on every movie for 37 years -- who had quite a night, also taking home a statuette for transforming Streep into Maggie Thatcher.

"Thanks Meryl, for keeping me employed for the last 37 years," said Helland, who won with Mark Coulier.

I'm Freaking Out!

The first emotional moment of the evening came with Octavia Spencer's expected yet still heartwarming supporting actress win for her turn as a tart-tongued maid in The Help. From tart-tongued to a little tongue-tied: "Please wrap up ...I'm wrapping up!" she cried. "I'm freaking out!"

Yes, Another One...

This could become a trend: For the second year in a row, a winner dropped an F-bomb. Last year it was supporting actress winner Melissa Leo; This year it was documentary feature winner TJ Martin, co-director of Undefeated, which documents a high school football team.

Martin confessed he'd been, er, defeated by his excitement. "That was not the classiest thing in the world," Martin said backstage. "However, it did come from the heart."

The Cutest Dog In The World

Uggie, the adorable dog in best-picture winner The Artist, got a deserved shout-out from the best director winner, Michel Hazanavicius. However, the director allowed that the canine star does have his limits. "I don't think he understands what I'm saying," Hazanavicius said. "He's not THAT good."

A Mess On The Carpet

Sacha Baron Cohen always has something up his sleeve. This year, the comic actor spilled it all over Ryan Seacrest's sleeves -- and the red carpet, too.

Parodying the Moammar Gadhafi-type dictator he plays in his upcoming film, The Dictator, Baron Cohen showed up carrying what he said were the ashes of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Then he spilled them all over the E! host's tuxedo.

Said Seacrest: "Anything can happen and it most certainly did, all over my lapel."

A Circus In The House

Wait, was that Spider-Man flying up to the rafters? No, this wasn't the Tonys, it was the Oscars, and those were Cirque du Soleil aerialists in a lavish tribute to the movies. Crystal noted the circus-like atmosphere when he quipped: "We've got puppets, acrobats ... we're a pony away from a bar mitzvah!"

At the Oscars, even the jokes had wrinkles

Out with the new. Back with the old.

And that's not just because The Artist, a largely silent film set in 1920s Hollywood, won so many awards, including best picture, actor and director at the Academy Awards ceremony.

The Descendants was the only one of the nine films nominated for best picture set in the present. "The Help" took place in the Jim Crow South. Terrence Malick's Tree of Life was set in 1950 Texas -- with an occasional flip back to the Dinosaur Age.

The whole night looked like an AARP pep rally, starting with an introduction by Morgan Freeman, who was followed by Billy Crystal, returning to host his ninth Oscar ceremony.. And age was his theme of the night. He did his usual comic medley of movie moments, including a sketch with George Clooney in The Descendants, urging Mr. Crystal to host the show. He promised "the youngest, hippest writers in town" and the camera panned to a group of drooping, old white men from the film Moneyball.

Do not compare Indian awards with Oscars says Abhishek

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan feels it is futile for Indian media to compare Indian film award functions to a ceremony like Oscars because here most such functions are organised by the media houses themselves.

"Interesting to see read a lot of the media comparing the Oscars to our Indian awards. Most seem to think that we need to improve, raise our standards... Wait a minute... Aren't most of OUR awards run and held by media houses," Abhishek wrote on Twitter.

"Take the initiative, we shall follow," he added, taking a dig at mediapersons, who hailed Sunday night's 84th Academy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles.

Some lauded the ceremony for its transparent system of winner selection, while some celebrities like Mini Mathur are impressed with the right titles to the awards.

"It's just so correct that an original screenplay n adapted screenplay gets judged in separate categories," tweeted Mini.

Beyond offbeat films, I want comedy, romance: Mahie Gill

Bollywood Actress Mahie Gill, who started her film career with Anurag Kashyap's Dev D, a modern day take on Devdas, says it's not a conscious decision to star in offbeat films. In fact, she wants to explore other genres too.

"I wanted to work with intelligent and good directors...these are the kind of films that they are making. They are offbeat subjects, interesting subjects, new subjects. I am lucky that I am doing that kind of roles," said Mahie.

"But at the same time as an actor, I need to explore myself further because I too want to do comedies, I want to do romantic roles," added the 36-year-old.

The critically acclaimed actress played characters with negative shades in Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster and Not a Love Story, and says there's a special reason behind it.

"A lot of my directors tell me that I have a very innocent face. So when with an innocent face you play a character with negative shades, it looks even more interesting," said Mahie.

Mahie is currently busy promoting her forthcoming film Paan Singh Tomar, which has Irrfan Khan as the male lead. Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film hits theatres March 2.

Celebs have edge over genuine social workers: Salman

Salman Khan, who runs charity organisation Being Human for underprivileged people, feels that due to media coverage movie stars tend to have an edge over others who sincerely work toward the betterment of society. And he is not too happy about it.

"We (celebrities) have an edge because we are there on every TV and every screen, good films, bad films, stuff like what we do in restaurants...So, we are there all over and we have an advantage over people who are really great people, and have not been given the coverage because of TRP ratings," the 46-year-old said here.

"It sucks because if you are doing that kind of (social) work, and nobody knows about you, it`s weird," he added.

Salman keeps doing his bit as a socially concerned citizen. He sells his paintings, and the proceeds are used for the welfare of the underprivileged.

Last seen in `Bodyguard,` Salman will soon be seen sharing screen space with ex-flame Katrina Kaif in `Ek Tha Tiger.`

Oscar nominees reveal red-carpet underwear secrets

Friday, February 24, 2012

Anyone who knows their Oscars knows that nominees' fashion plans are strictly top secret until the big day. They seem to be more revealing about their designer undergarments, though.

While it may fit into the too-much-information file, some of the year's most celebrated actors and directors aren't afraid to talk about the product placement underneath those tuxes and gowns.

"What I do, because I get chilly, I like to wear long johns. The full one with the trap door in the back," said a joking George Clooney, a double nominee for his leading role in The Descendants and his adapted screenplay for The Ides of March.

Nominated Descendants director Alexander Payne declined to describe his planned underwear, so Clooney spoke for him. "Garanimals," he said, referring to the children's clothing brand. "Underoos."

Octavia Spencer, supporting actress nominee for The Help, will not be repeating the triple-Spanx approach she took at the Golden Globes.

"I want to be comfortable and look good and have fun," she said. "So I'm just going to do the normal one here, one there. (Laughs.) Here a Spank, there a Spank, everywhere a Spank-Spank."

The shaping undergarments have become such a red-carpet staple for women that Spanx introduced a men's line designed to boost pectoralis muscles and minimize guts.

Berenice Bejo, who is nominated for her supporting role in The Artist, may be planning to work her sex appeal on the red carpet Sunday, where she'll be accompanied by her husband, nominated director Michel Hazanavicius of The Artist.

"You mean Spank or no Spank?" Bejo asked when presented with the underwear inquiry. "I don't think so, because of the dress I'll have, I don't think I'll wear too much."

Soha's Sahib... look modelled on Sharmila's Anupama

Mumbai, The "Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster" sequel has got more interesting - Soha Ali Khan joins the cast as Irrfan Khan's tormented wife. Her role would borrow quite a lot from "Anupama", in which her mother, Sharmila Tagore, was seen as a suppressed daughter.
But as Soha points out enigmatically: "Nothing and no one is ever how they seem. I'm very excited about the role."

Adding to Soha's excitement about being teamed up with the talented Irrfan for the first time is the fact that her look, body language, clothes and appearance would be modelled on her mother Sharmila in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1960s' classic "Anupama". In the film Soha's mother had played a suppressed daughter.

"Soha has just been added to 'Sahib Bibi Aur Gangster 2'. After the surprisingly positive response to 'Sahib Bibi Aur Gangster', we want the sequel to be less budget-challenged, more glossy and viewer-friendly," said Tigmanshu Dhuila, who is directing the film.

"We also needed to add more characters to carry the sequel forward. Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill and Randeep Hooda are back. But Irrfan and Soha play the other couple. Soha will play a very mysterious character."

Tigmanshu was very impressed with Soha.

"When I met her, I found her to very unlike the typical Bollywood actor. She's a very intelligent girl. Although the character is very different from her personality, she understood the requirements of her role immediately. I was stuck by how similar she looked to her beautiful mother. Yes, I've planned a very special look for Soha. I want her to look prettier than she has ever done."
